Contexte historique

Jean Moulin's military career

On April 17th 1918, Jean Moulin was mobilized and incorporated into the 2nd regiment of the Montpellier Engineers before being transferred to the 7th regiment of Engineers. Demobilized on November 1st 1919, he retired to Béziers. On January 1st 1924, he was transferred to the reserves of the 2nd regiment of Engineers and then, on February 10 1927, into an aerial base in Marignane. Promoted to Master Corporal on March 19th 1937, he was reassigned a year later on February 15th 1938 to the Issy-les-Moulineaux aerial base in the Air Battalion n°117. Made a sergeant on December 10th 1938, he was deferred for a period of 30 days in order to attend to the Ministry of the Interior on June 8th 1939, as at this time he was prefect of Eure-et-Loir. Until December 1939, he petitioned to be remobilized. Recalled to active duty for the n°117 Air Battalion, he arrived on December 13th 1939. A few days later, on the 20th of the month, he was given special clearance indefinitely in his capacity as the Prefect of the Eure-et-Loir. In fact, Albert Sarraut, Minister of the Interior, ordered him to resume his post, as he judged his values to be the most secure within the entire prefectural administration. Discharged on December 27th 1939, he was demobilized due to his involvement with the special services which commenced on June 25th 1940.
