Contexte historique

A system of coordination for the forces of the Parisian Resistance, the Comité parisien de libération (Parisian Committee of Liberation, CPL) was created on October 23th 1943. It was comprised of representatives from the main movements, parties and underground unions. The CPL struggled to prove itself against FFI organizations but eventually achieved recognition through the intervention of the CNR who recognized their authority. It was the CPL who launched the call to insurrection on August 18th 1944, cordoned the Hôtel de Ville on August 21st and installed themselves there. It served as the town and county council meeting place until the installation of provisional assembles.
