La Médaille de la Résistance française doit sûrement son existence à l'épopée de deux officiers des forces françaises libres, capturés par les autorités de Vichy après l'opération manquée de Dakar et de l'un des chefs du réseau Alliance. En effet, le commandant Claude Hettier de Boislambert, Antoine Bissagnet de l'administration coloniale et Jean Sainteny, condamnés à de lourdes peines de travaux forcés, s'évadèrent de la prison de Gannat (Allier) au début du mois de décembre 1942 grâce à l'aide du réseau de résistance Alliance et rejoignirent Londres. Ils se promirent d'en parler au général de Gaulle pour que "quelque chose soit fait pour récompenser ceux qui se battent dans l'ombre et sans uniforme". Nos trois évadés savaient bien qu'ils n'auraient jamais pu réussir sans l'aide de ces combattants anonymes.
The Beginnings
The Medal of the French Resistance surely owes its existence to one of the leaders of the Alliance network and to the epic of two officers of troops of the free zones of France, who were arrested by the authorities of Vichy after the failed mission of Dakar. In fact, Commander Claude Hettier de Boislambert, Antoine Bissagnet from the colonial administration and Jean Sainteny, who were sentenced to forced labor, were able to escape from the prison of Gannat (Allier) to London in the beginning of December 1942, thanks to the help of the resistance network Alliance. They promised themselves to inform General de Gaulle about this, “so that something would be done to reward all those who fought in the shadow and without uniform”. Our three escapees were well aware of the fact that they would not have been able to escape without the help of these anonymous fighters.
